We had a good meeting. We enjoyed talking about books, how we became atheists, billboards, websites, libraries and much more. See the agenda below to check our progress on each item:
AGENDA:
Reports about progress on:
1. Billboard (Tim, Brent)
More communications with FFRF. We are considering COR as well, and will contact them because they have the billboard we all like the best.
We need to talk more about how to handle the publicity of putting up a billboard. Who will talk to the press? Who will write the letter to the editor, etc? If we get a bunch of atheists coming out of their closets, where will we meet if there are 30 of us? These are things we need to talk about before we decide to get a billboard.
Neece here: I have an idea, maybe to test the waters? We could make up fliers and put them around and see what kind of response we get. What do you think? We could see how people react on a small scale.
2. Library donations (Gerald,Neece re: Fairmont Library needs)
From Neece’s online research it seems there are no atheist books of any sort at Fairmont Library. Gerald has agreed to call and ask about donation policies, etc.
3. Speaker (Brent)
Brent is handling this. It’s looking good so far. He is working on getting David Mills of Atheist Universe to come talk to us (and the Brights) in the fall.
4. Website (www.morgantownatheists.com)
Still looking for helpful feedback regarding the site. The forum is up and working. I met a man at the Blue Moose Sunday night who said when he typed in Morgantown June 14, the site came up first in the list.
What do you want public and what do you want just for our eyes only?
Are you having any problems that I haven’t mentioned in the forum yet?
What would you like to see on the site? What would you like to have the site do for us?
5. Mission Statement (Neece)
We didn’t get to this issue. Your input is encouraged! What do you want to see the Morgantown Atheists do, what is our mission, should we choose to accept it?
6. Socializing
We talked about lots of different things. Good stuff hanging out with like-minded people.
